Acsa and Fred Hitchens
Acsa and Fred moved to Roseville, California, in December of 1998 upon Fred’s retirement as a Vice President of Treaty Reinsurance with GMAC Re Corporation, then a subsidiary of General Motors.
Since their retirement Acsa has been active in volunteer activities and as an active grandparent. After all her work in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with the homeless and near homeless through the Homeless Shelter in Levittown, and Board Member of the American Red Cross of Lower Bucks County, it was a natural to become involved in Roseville. She became an early Board member of the Placer Care Coalition. Their mission is to “raise funds to assist local organizations in helping the poor and homeless.” She was President of the Board for two years, and continues her active involvement as a Board Member.
During this period Fred was an active retiree trying to improve his golf and tennis games and more importantly, being an active Grandparent. Fred served as Treasurer and Board Member of his Homeowner’s Association. During this time he also served as Treasurer and Board Member of the Senior L.I.F.E. Center of Loomis, California.
In January 2004, in a “senior moment” he agreed, before consulting Acsa, to serve as co-executive director of the Center along with Acsa. This has turned out to be a wonderful experience. We enjoy every day that we are with them and realize what true treasures they are. Our hope is to provide them with a wonderful place and environment where they can continue to be active and engaged for as long as possible.
The Center is in its 30th year and continues to grow and offer programs that are relevant and timely, as well as provide nutritious meals and appropriate exercise programs. The budget has doubled in the past four years and attendance is up substantially. Our biggest problem is providing transportation for those that do not drive or no longer drive.
